Website design presentation—how to decide on the best solution?
Posted 09/02/2009 in: Web communication & marketing • Interface design | 0 Comment | Permalink
While designing a website, there will come a time when several design solutions will be proposed to you, the client. At that time I always stress that you should look at them as if you were a visitor to the website.
Imagine that you just came upon the site and browse a few pages. If the answer to the following critical questions is “yes,” the design is strong and it will be a positive experience for the user:
- Does the home page clearly state your message?
- Can people navigate from the home page? Do the links answer any questions they may have or guide them to where you want them to go?
- Does the “feel” of the design and content support and enhance the message of your marketing and brand?
- Is the website navigation intuitive and consistent?
- Can you easily evaluate the site’s content by just exploring it?
- Do you know what to click on?
- Do links clearly state what will happen after you click on them?
- When you are taken to a page, is it clear right away that the page is the right one?
- Can you quickly skim a page and understand what its content is and whether it will answer your questions or address your interests?
- Is the writing expressive, positive, and easy to read and understand?
- If you need help, can you easily find a FAQ/help page or a way to contact the company?
